HUBERT OGUNDE: LEGENDARY FOREBEAR OF NIGERIA’S PERFORMING ARTS

Chief Hubert Ogunde was a legendary forebear of Nigeria’s performing arts. Born in 1916, he had a passion for dance and music from childhood. He founded the African Music Research Party, the first contemporary professional theatrical company in Nigeria.

Chief Hubert Adedeji Ogunde left behind sons and grandsons who are
carrying on his legacy as performers. His house at No. 4 Noble Street
became a hub to co-artists young and old when they needed guidance or
inspiration.Baba Ogunde passed away 34 year ago, precisely on April 4, 1990,
while working on a new production with the  Nigeria Film Corporation.
We remember him today because his family continues upholding their
creative abilities.Great family, keep fanning the embers of our
legend’s performing prowess. You are indeed appreciated because the
