… Dr Eniayewun’s Tansformational, Impactful Service In Lagos Health Sector Is Topnotch – Dr. Sanwo-Olu

Recently, history was made at the grand launch of TRANSFORMING: My Journey Through The Lagos State Health System, written  by Dr. Ademuyiwa Benjamin Eniayewun.

The event went beyond just a book launch, it was indeed a masterclass in leadership and legacy-building.

The First Lady of Lagos State and other dignitaries commended Dr Eniayewun for his exemplary leadership qualities.

In her speech, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu applauded Dr. Eniayewun for documenting his transformational journey and impactful service in the Lagos health sector and emphasised the Themes PLUS Agenda efforts on creating affordable and accessible health care for all Lagosians. “The book stands as a  legacy of dedication, resilience and innovation, a guide for current and future health care leaders.” Dr. Sanwo-Olu concluded.

So many friends in US, Canada, Europe and Nigeria watched the live streaming with great commendations and testimonials to his worthy leadership qualities.

It was a full hall of dignitaries celebrating Dr. Eniayewun’s quality and multilayered impacts on Lagos Healthcare Delivery.

In an age where public perception shapes national policy, brand trust defines business success, and communication crises can make or break institutions, few professionals stand as tall as Dr. Eniayewun.

This book authored by Dr. Eniayewun is indeed a laudable and bold attempt to capture the processes that played out, from his personal transformation, through institutional transformation, and industry transformation.

The book makes for a great read. The tone, cadence, and nuances in dealing with and surmounting all manners of bottlenecks he encountered will appeal to medical healthcare workers at all levels, from the rookie doctor to the most accomplished surgeon, matron, pharmacist, and others in between.

The book will equally appeal to people in all spectrums of life, professions, and industries as excellence has no gender, colour, or creed. Transforming is a liberating book of many parts. It is an autobiography, telling the story of the author from a humble beginning all the way to Ivy League schools in search of knowledge.

It relates the leadership journey of a thoroughbred professional, laying a solid foundation as the pioneer MD of Amuwo MCC; working hard to turn around the fortunes of Alimosho General Hospital to become the fastest growing hospital in Lagos state and rebirthing Lagos Island Maternity Hospital to its past iconic glory.

Finally, the book is a study in strategic management and transformational leadership. It recounts the processes and innovations that delivered transformation, one general hospital at a time until the healthcare landscape of the state changed and keeps changing beyond recognition.

A trained Surgeon, Dr Eniayewun has held a variety of senior leadership roles in healthcare in the Lagos civil service. Notably, he was the first Medical Director of the Maternal and Child Centre Amuwo-Odofin and the Medical Director of the Alimosho General Hospital Igando and then Lagos Island Maternity.

He is more than a doctor, he is an institution, a thinker, a strategist, and a shaper of narratives across most health management landscapes.

He deploys a multimethod and multilayered lens, from career trajectory to influence, innovation, and intellectual legacy. As can be seen in the book, he is a man whose presence in the health sector reverberates far beyond policy memos.

There are many reasons this book is a Must-Read for all health stakeholders and those interested in society having the best of total wellbeing.

Under his watch, e-libraries evolved because his strides are not accidental. As the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Nigeria, many innovative initiatives happened under his leadership.

In 2015, he consolidated his medical and managerial skills by completing an MBA at the University of Warwick. Dr Eniayewun joined the IHF Governing Council in November 2020.

In this book, we will get to know what have been his efforts towards improving health care delivery in Lagos using some cutting edge technologies initiatives in health educational development in Lagos as well as other achievements in terms of humanitarian services and community developments.

Same with answers to some of the challenges mitigating against achievement of reduced maternal mortality rate, how to reduce the japa syndrome among medical practitioners and what can be done differently in order to achieve the renewed hope and mega status of Lagos both in the area of health and education.

The book is fully-loaded with vital information about the digital transformation of operations with introduction of electronic medical records in more than 80% of the state general hospitals.

So also is the digitalisation of staff records going to paperless operations. There’s also the creation of platforms for online continuous medical education programs for all clinical professionals.

In addition to Medical E-libraries in 12 General Hospitals across the state, Dr Eniayewun has commissioned the installation of 7 E-library packages for secondary schools , 1 for THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY, and 12 for Colleges of Medicine.

Essentially, an E-library or ELECTRONIC LIBRARY is the digital equivalent of a library.

The advantage of the E-library package is that it contains several thousand times more materials than a conventional library.

Users still need a wifi enabled computer, tablet or even a mobile phone. However, the SYSDIGIT PACKAGE used does not need any purchase of internet data as it is on its own network.

Another added advantage is that for every topic/ course/ subject, there are several  downloadable books at no cost.

There are a lot of things to learn from this book written by a trained Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who had been Medical Director in three general hospitals in a cosmopolitan state like Lagos.

No amount of reviews will do justice to what the book contains but the best option is to ensure that the book, both in hard and electronic copies, get to the nooks and crannies of not only Lagos,  Nigeria and all over the globe.
