Standup for Women Society, SWS, Lagos Chapter,  visited the Paediatric Ward and Medical Emergency of Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, on Saturday to help out with bill settlement of some needy patients.

It was indeed a joyous moment for those who benefited from the gesture as some have not been able to pay up their bills to warrant being discharged or finding it difficult to pay for their drugs.

Speaking at the event,  the National President of the organization, Barr. Deborah Ijadele-Adetona urged members to continue to uplift other women and always be ready to render helping hands when necessary. She also gave some words of advice to affected parents and beneficiaries.

“We plan to make the donations a regular activity and pray that God will make that easy for us as an organisation.” She concluded.

In her speech, the Chairperson, Lagos Chapter of SWS, Hajia Sekinah Temitope Lawal, commended members of the organization for donating towards the actualization of the project, urged them to do more of such humanitarian services while advising other well-meaning organisations to emulate such kind gestures.

“As a gender-based organization that champions the welfare and equality of womenfolk, advocating for their welfare, socio-economic and political rights and full participation in all spheres of human endeavour, we deemed it fit to give our widow’s mite to those in need too.

“We believe that whatever we do in life, everything depends upon the intention behind such actions. While some people might be able to give out of abundance, we believe that generosity is not about the quantity we give but the sincerity and sacrifice with which we give the charity.” Hajia Lawal explained.

With chapters in 36 states of the federation, including a chapter in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as well as chapters in 22 African countries with membership cutting across all strata of the society, SWS has been involved in identifying, protecting, promoting and advocating for the rights of women over the years through advocacy, mentorship, workshops and conferences on gender issues, leadership, personal development, career growth, work life balance, to mention a few.
