

Standup for Women Society, SWS, will begin her annual conference in Lagos on Wednesday 10-13th of September, 2025 with both indoor and outdoor activities under the distinguished chairmanship of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Lagos State first lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu will delivered the keynote address while Olori Temitope Ogunwusi is the Mother of the Day with Oba of Badagry as the Royal Father of the Day.
Speaking on the event, the National President of the organization, Barr. Deborah Ijadele-Adetona prayed for journey mercies for all conference delegates and guests. She urged women to continue to uplift others and always be ready to render helping hands when necessary.
In the words of the Chairperson, conference planning committee, Dr. Busola Odedina, it is a life-transforming event and a gathering of unstoppable women ready to elevate and thrive, taking place at Lagos Airport Hotel.
“Let’s make history together by being prepared, equipped, present and be the women we are meant to be.” Dr Odedina concluded.
According to Hajia Sekinah Temitope Lawal, Chairperson, SWS, Lagos Chapter, the Theme for this year is; “From Potential to Powerhouse: Equipping Women to Elevate and Thrive.”
“This Conference promises to be a transformative one with days of empowerment, connection, and celebration encouraging women to elevate and thrive together.
Dignitaries have started arriving Lagos from different parts of Nigeria, Africa and across the globe.” Hajia Sekinah Lawal explained further.

Hajia Lawal also commended members of the planning committee especially the committee Chairperson, Dr Odedina and the international President, Barrister Adetona, for their sacrifices towards ensuring a successful conference. It’s been months of planning, strategising and sacrifices.
As a gender-based organization that champions the welfare and equality of womenfolk, advocating for their rights, the theme of the conference emphasizes the importance of women’s empowerment in creating positive change in communities, highlights the need to break down barriers that hinder women’s progress and build bridges that foster collaboration and support.

The theme is inclusive, recognizing that women’s empowerment benefits not only women but also their families, communities, and society as a whole.
Apart from the panel discussions and workshops, multiple sessions will be held concurrently, focusing on various aspects of women’s empowerment, including education, healthcare, economic empowerment and more.
There will be Awards and Recognition Night, Exhibitions of products and services supporting women’s empowerment, including local artisans, women-led businesses, and organizations offering products and services, Networking Opportunities, Lagos City Tour, among others.
With chapters in 36 states of the federation, including a chapter in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as well as chapters in 22 African countries and diaspora with membership cutting across all strata of the society, SWS has been involved in identifying, protecting, promoting and advocating for the rights of women over the years through advocacy, mentorship, workshops and conferences on gender issues, leadership, personal development, career growth, work life balance, to mention a few.
