PRAYER SUPPORT GROUP UPLIFTS WIDOWS TO MARK ONE YEAR REMEMBRANCE OF LT. GEN  LAGBAJA

Nigerian Army, 81 Division, Lagos State, held a one year memorial for late former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja who died last year.

The 81 Division General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, family and friends held the remembrance on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025 at the TA Lagbaja Cantonment in Ikeja.

Speaking, the GOC Mijinyawa said the military exactly a year ago “lost a leader, an officer who served this nation with every sense of responsibility.”

Major General Mijinyawa noted that he was a mentor, adding that within a year in office, the late COAS left an indelible mark in the Nigerian Army.

An NGO, Prayers and Support  for The Armed Forces and other security agencies,  headed by Ambassador Mary Fatile, distributed food items to over 50 widows in commemoration of the one year memorial anniversary for the late hero.

The GOC lauded members of  the #Prayers and Support for the Nigerian Armed forces and other security agencies, who contributed towards putting smiles on faces of the widows. .

The convener of #Prayer and Support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies, Mary Abayomi-Fatile while leading members for the presentation of foodstuffs to widows of fallen soldiers, described the late General Lagbaja as an embodiment of selfless service.

Ambassador Mary Fatile said, “We choose to honour him because he loved the Nigerian military with all his heart and served his fatherland with sincerity and passion. He placed the nation above himself and dedicated his life to ensuring the safety and stability of every Nigerian. General Lagbaja wanted insecurity to end in our lifetime and he gave everything for that cause.”  

The widows who benefited from the NGO’s gestures were full of appreciation and commended  the NGO for reaching out to them.

Major General Mijinyawa noted that the distribution of palliatives to widows of fallen heroes in commemoration of the remembrance of late Lieutenant General Lagbaja was to uphold his legacy of selflessness and to prioritise the welfare of troops and their families.

He urged the widows “never to be despair as the army authorities would be there for them and do everything within its power to alleviate their conditions and comfort them.”
