A non-governmental organization (NGO), Lifeline Advocacy & Development Initiative (LADI), has donated medical and assistive devices to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH)’s Oncology/Cancer Unit, and Medserve/LUTH Cancer centre, Idi Araba.
LADI was founded by Nigeria’s veteran broadcaster, Mrs. Bimbo Oloyede, to support Nigeria’s healthcare needs in general and cancer care in particular, in commemoration of her 70th birthday in 2024.
In a release signed by Mrs. Oloyede, she recalled that some members of her family had been challenged by cancer but friends had offered help when it was most needed. She said LADI would also encourage those facing similar challenges in public hospitals.
The devices include wheelchairs, three-seater iron chairs, footstools, inspirational frames/decor, drip stands and roll-up banners.
The Chief Clinical Coordinator at the Medserve LUTH Cancer Centre, Idi Araba, Prof Muhammad Yaqub Habeebu, and his team received the items from Mrs Oloyede. At the same time, Prof Adebowale Odekoya, Director, Clinical Services and Training/Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), represented the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof Adetokunbo Fabamwo, and his colleagues, did for LASUTH.

The LASUTH team included Consultant, Clinical and Radiation Oncologist Dr Omolara Fatiregun, Consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist Dr Temitope Olatunji-Agunbiade, Oncology registrar, Dr Oladuni Yusuf-Oduyoye, the Director of Nursing/Head of Nursing Training Unit, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babarimisa, who represented the HOD, Dr Olayinka Olamoye, Deputy Director, CMAC, and Assistant Director of Finance and Accounts, Olukayode Oyedele, who represented the HOD.

LUTH’s team included Head, Nursing Services, Michelle Mangongolo, Head, Finance, Chidinma Nweze, Business Development Associate, Feyisola Fagbore, and Customer Relations Officer, Ovbokhan Aimienoho.
Mrs Oloyede reiterated her conviction on the donations, “that all the donated items will serve all and sundry, irrespective of nationality, gender, financial status, health indices, or social status. Every single soul will be able to access whatever donations are made,”
Already, she is making moves to acquire further devices because, the hospitals approached her and made an urgent appeal to obtain a Biobase Biosafety cabinet (Class II, 1100), stretchers, and a medical dune buggy.
While the equipment will enhance the quality of patient treatment responses, the Biobase Biosafety cabinet (Class II, 1100), will ensure the proper mixing of patients’ drugs. It is a safety hood for cancer drugs.
She is appealing for support in cash, or in kind by purchasing any of the above.
